Family Heirlooms: The Search for "Balloon Blanket"

Updated: Sep 13, 2019

About a month ago, I was visiting my Grandpa when he gave me different heirlooms. He told me the different stories behind the heirlooms. The goal is to tell each story of the heirlooms. The first being the search for "Balloon Blanket".

When I was born my great-grandmother had sewn me a baby blanket. This blanket had balloons, clowns, and the primary colors. It was pretty close to a circus minus the animals. I always called my blanket the "Balloon Blanket". Not only did she make this blanket for me, but she also made the same blanket for my grandpa. My grandpa and I have always had a close bond and have many similar blankets throughout my childhood.

When I was a little girl I wore this precious blanket out to the point of having holes in it. I remember being extremely sad when my Mother told me it was time to pack my blanket away and I could no longer use it. To help me feel better about this transition, my Mother and I made two blankets that were similar to my balloon blankets. We made one for me and one for my grandpa.

Now fast forward twenty years later. I asked my Grandpa if he still had his "Balloon Blanket" and he responded he did. We went searching high and low in his house for this blanket. We checked every closest, every cupboard, every corner and balloon blanket was not to be found. In hopes of finding the balloon blanket, we found the similar one that I made him years ago. Sadly to this day I have not been able to find this precious blanket. I am in hopes that one of my family members has it in their homes.

But picture below is Balloon Blanket 2.0.
